Yesterday I first noticed this funny brownish discolouration on my lower abdomen, running vertically from the groin region up to the navel. I didn't think much of it until I decided to see what a quick internet search would turn up. Turns out it's called 'Linea nigra' (black line) and is a common symptom during pregnancy. As Wikipedia  puts it:
"Linea nigra (Latin for "black line") is a dark vertical line that appears on the abdomen during about three quarters of all pregnancies. [..] Linea nigra is due to increased melanocyte-stimulating hormone made by the placenta, which also causes melasma and darkened nipples."
Combine this with my distended abdomen, frequent bouts of nausea, changed eating habits and various other symptoms and one does begin to wonder just what is happening inside my tummy. Maybe an ultrasound at the gynaecologist on Monday will show me to be mere months away from starting my very own family. Stranger things have happened...
