My Interview With Shefali Burns

Last Saturday I did an interview with minor Google+ celebrity Shefali Burns, a very friendly lady from Canada. She even postponed her breakfast and lunch so that she could interview me on my experiences growing up as a hermaphrodite in the conservative Netherlands. Give her a round of applause :)

Maya, we have walked arm and arm through much of life together. We have not known it but, we have shared many of the horrors of having a broken body. No, we do not walk the same path, but a similar one.
I am truly inspired by you! I can't thank you enough! I have lived with the shame of being 47xxy for more than 60 years. I was diagnosed at age 26. I had known for a long time that there was something very wrong with me, but no doctor ever said a thing. I nearly took my life at 19, but the love for my mother stopped me. The battle between my ears seems never to end.
I saw your interview with Sarah Hill. It blew me away and opened my eyes and it got me searching for help, and there is a lot. As you are finding out, the medical community is in its infancy in understanding the many variations of Disorders of Sexual Development (DSD), but it has begun.
Though you have a broken body you have been have been also given a great mind and you have given yourself a forum to make your case. You have not run away for the challenge! It is inspiring that you face this head on!
Our lives are about persistence. We grow in the valleys of life, in our own hell's, only to climb up to the mountain top to bask for a while in the warm sun with the sand between our toes before life throws us back into the valley.
Never think you are alone in this battle. We love you and are praying for your strength and success
